Panasonic Lumix cameras are known for their exceptional zoom capabilities, now they take you closer while maintaining a brilliant picture quality with the 12x Optical Zoom, and smart features like Extra Optical Zoom and Easy Zoom.
Many cameras complement their optical zoom ratio with digital zoom, where a portion of an image is ‘blown-up’ digitally to give the effect of a higher zoom. However, images taken with digital zoom become highly pixilated as they are merely digitally processed images rather than images delivered by a true optical zoom.
Aware of this factor, Panasonic has now introduced ‘Extra Optical Zoom’ to its Lumix camera line-up. Extra Optical Zoom cleverly enables you to extend the optical zoom ratio with less image-quality deterioration compared to digital zoom. This function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power by using the centre part of the CCD; compared with conventional digital zoom functions that directly enlarge the image data, it provides better image quality.
Intelligent Auto Mode: the easy way to get great shots every time
When you are not sure which mode will provide the best shooting results, when a sudden photo opportunity appears or when you do not have time to make manual settings, simply choose Intelligent Auto (iA) mode and let the Lumix camera do it all for you!
Depending on the Panasonic Lumix model, iA mode uses up to six bundled technologies working perfectly together to provide the best possible shooting results every time.
Face Recognition – Face Recognition registers your favourite friends and family members and will optimize the focus and exposure on your favourite persons. You also have the ability to playback photos by person, and add date, name, age along with adding descriptions to your photos.
Some models now have HD movie capability ( EG: TZ7, FX40, FZ38 )

Most digital cameras house a “brain” – the LSI – which generates a luminance signal from the green component of incoming light. The intelligent Panasonic Venus Engine image processor technology generates the signal from the red and blue components as well. This rich luminance signal information helps to boost the diagonal, horizontal and vertical resolution for extraordinary sharp and detailed images.
An image-processing engine, Venus Engine V, uses advanced signal processing providing beautiful images even when the sensitivity is high. Multi-task signal processing is employed for all images to enable high-speed, high-performance shooting. The Venus Engine V also effectively raises the precision of various functions, such as MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) and Intelligent ISO Control.
Along with its extremely high performance, Venus Engine V reduces power consumption thanks to a number of energy efficiency improvements.
The high-performance image-processing LSI has been reborn as Venus Engine HD, assuring higher-quality pictures and HD movies in 720p AVCHD Lite with an advanced signal processing system.
Regardless if you are shooting low-lit still images or fast moving HD videos, you can rest assured that the Venus Engine HD image processor will handle it all perfectly. Thanks to AVCHD Lite and the high performance of Venus Engine HD this new High Definition quality is possible.
Intelligent Exposure – No more under or over exposed shots! Intelligent Exposure corrects the parts of the image that are too dark or too bright, so images come out as naturally as you see them.
Mega OIS – Gyrosensors detect hand-shake and the Optical Image Stabiliser lens shifts to compensate, helping prevent hand-shake blur. This system is completely optical – it does not affect the CCD or image processing – so you get sharp, clear images without deterioration. Choose from two modes:
Mode 1 remains ON at all times for continuous compensation.
Mode 2 starts working as soon as the shutter is released to achieve a greater effect.
Lumix Digital Still Cameras take a WIDE view!
Most conventional digital cameras offer a weak wide angle and you get in trouble if you want to fit all your friends in the frame or take in more of landscapes or interiors.
The Panasonic Lumix series of wide angle cameras make the perfect partner for wide angle shots – featuring 25mm, 28mm and 29mm wide angle lenses.
Although the difference between 35mm and 25mm equivalent lenses may not sound like a lot, the 25mm wide angle lens can capture a subject or scene with more than a two times wider frame from the same perspective as a conventional 35mm camera can achieve. This extra range is especially useful when you are indoors where you can be restricted in your movements by walls, corners, or furniture trying to take a photo of the family or friends, or when you want to capture a much wider landscape.
The advanced Lumix DMC-TZ7 for example, features two aspherical lenses with three aspherical surfaces including two ED lenses. This lens system makes it possible to deliver a 25mm wide angle lens with 12x optical zoom in a compact body.
The new 29mm wide angle Leica DC lens allows for a remarkably compact body and slim profile, while it captures the subject and the scene wider at the same standpoint than conventional 35mm cameras do. The compact and stylish Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS25 is the perfect companion for capturing groups of friends at parties, and the whole family in a family portrait during gatherings.
POWER O.I.S^ - Introducing the new POWER OIS feature, which helps prevent handshake even when using high-powered zoom. The new POWER O.I.S clearly captures subjects in the ultra-telephoto range, which used to require a tripod. With twice the shake suppression capability of previous models, the new POWER O.I.S is particularly effective when shooting at night with a low shutter speed for example, whilst also greatly improving the quality of shots taken indoors where a flash cannot be used or where a photographer doesn’t want to use a flash because it would spoil the mood.
^Power OIS only applicable to Lumix digital cameras: DMC-FZ38, DMC-ZX1, DMC-FX60 and DMC-FP8
Intelligent ISO Control – With Intelligent ISO Control, your Lumix camera can adjust the ISO sensitivity if the subject moves as the shot is taken thereby preventing blurriness of the photo.
Intelligent Scene Selector – The Intelligent Scene Selector automatically selects whichever of five scene modes - Macro, Portrait, Scenery, Night Portrait, and Night Scenery – best suits your shooting situation.
